Welcome to Lakewood Library!
We Are Readers and Makers at the
As our school year comes to an end, we celebrate the accomplishments of our community of readers. Our annual Reader's Celebration included 167 students who had gone above and beyond in their reading. Over 70 students participated in the new Ten-at-a-Time Book Club, and 33 completed 4 logs- 40 books- and earned a Gold Medal. All of our 2nd graders qualified to come to the Reader's Celebration by reading Caldecott Books, and 5 read enough to earn a Lakewood Reader's T-Shirt. We had reading leaders in Reading Counts, as well, earning over 4,000 points!
Our final library event of the year is a BOGO Book Fair. To encourage summer reading, we will have a special book fair offering all of the books at a "buy one/get one" rate. The book fair will run from May 21-24, 8:00-3:30 daily.
Once you have stocked up for summer reading, be sure to check out the summer reading incentive program at www.hebreads.org .
You will find information about incentives and prizes, as well as book lists for all ages.
Barnes and Noble and Half Price Books have summer reading programs that reward readers with free books, and students can also complete the Summer Read-O to turn in when school resumes in August.
Have fun with Summer Reading!
Our Broadcast Team for 2018-19 has been selected and the new team members will receive their training between now and the end of the school year. All of the 5th graders who tried out for the team did an excellent job, and selecting the students who make the team is very difficult indeed! Congratulations to our new Broadcast Team- we look forward to seeing you on our daily announcements!
